A little big, but...

OK - colours have not come out completely true... but you get the idea.

It is going to be a bit big for Hannah for a while yet... well, at least the top will be. I made it to the same pattern as I have used for another top without a problem... but it can work as a dress in the mean time.

I still have to finish the edges, but I have not yet decided how I will do it, whether it be with a straight seam or something a little bit different. I the mean time though, I really need to spend some time cleaning the house.

I started with some large 50 x 55cm squares of fabric left over from the quilt in the previous post. I got the idea from a top that my mother owns. I cut the fabric into strips 9cm wide, then using a stitched zigzag I sewed the wrong sides together. Once all the rows were sewn, I simply cut the pattern. (The back of the top/dress is just straight navy blue).

Unfortunately I do not have an overlocker (*sigh*), otherwise I would have used that for the edges, but the zigzag stitch actually worked better than I thought. After I had stitched it all, I trimmed it right to the edge of the stitches.

Once I have them completely finished I will put them on Hannah and TRY to get a better shot... but I could not resist showing it off.

Now to clean up... Can I add a sewing room to my wishlist??

I think that the zigzag finish that you achieved looks better than an overlocked edge anyway! You are expanding our sewing group horizons by using those colours Sharon.... normally there is lots of PINK!!

lol - I am SOOOOOOOO over pink - everything Hannah has is pink. Half the reason I started sewing again was so that I could add some other colours!

This pic doesn't do it justice! You must put the better pics that you have at flickr up here. I love how the colours come together and it is so vibrant. You must have lots of patience to sew the rows together. Well done Sharon!
